The Wacky Alien is a 6.25" soft-plastic wacky worm designed by SoCal bass angler Rich Whitaker and hand-poured in Texas by WM Bayou. Its tentacle appendages pulse on the fall, the pause, and the retrieve — action most worms only give you on the fall. Built to float, it's made for weightless wacky rigs and the floating worm technique, and it fishes drop shot and Neko just as well. $6.99. One of our best sellers.
How should I rig the Wacky Alien?
Hook it through the middle on a weightless wacky rig — that's its home. It also fishes weighted wacky, drop shot (nose-hooked, 12–18" off bottom for suspended bass), Neko rig with a nail weight in the nose, shaky head (1/16–1/8 oz), Texas rig, and Carolina rig. Recommended: 7–8 lb fluorocarbon on spinning gear with a 1/0–2/0 finesse hook. For a weighted presentation, pair it with the Wacky-Neko Ring.
Wacky rig or Neko rig — which is better?
Both have a place. Fish it wacky for the slow fall and maximum tentacle action; go Neko when you want it on the bottom with a stand-up presentation. The tentacles keep moving either way.
What makes it different from a standard stick bait?
The tentacles. A plain stick bait falls straight — the Alien's appendages create multi-directional pulsing action on the fall and the retrieve, giving pressured bass a living, organic target they haven't seen before.
Why is it good for the floating worm technique?
The Wacky Alien is designed to float. Hooked through the center body with no added weight, it stays high in the water column instead of sinking out — hook choice and added weight decide whether it hovers or descends.
When is it most effective?
Clear, pressured water — especially spawn and post-spawn when bass are sight fishing — and suspended summer bass on drop shot. It catches largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass.
What size and colors does it come in?
6.25", $6.99. Current colors: Guacamole, Green Pumpkin, Oil Slick, Black and Blue, Night Sky, Old Earl, Tilapia Magic, Bayou Ember.
